Miami Mercury-Free Dentist

A cavity to be filled with white fillings by Dr. Sam Sadati
Cavity filled with Miami white fillings

What some dentists call silver fillings are actually a little less than half silver, and the other half is mostly mercury.

While the official position of the American Dental Association is that this mercury is safe, many people are wary about putting mercury-containing metals in their mouth. Mercury toxicity is subtle and difficult to diagnose, and once it gets into your system, it tends to stay there.

Our Office is Mercury-Free

Dr. Sadati far prefers white composite fillings for back teeth. Not only are they mercury-free, but they have several other advantages:

  • They bond to the teeth. Thus, the teeth are left stronger after being filled, which means there is less chance that they will later break and require more aggressive treatment such as crowns and root canal treatments.
  • They are more gentle, with less post-operative sensitivity. "Silver" fillings conduct heat and cold readily, where composites are an excellent insulator.
  • For new cavities, composite fillings require less drilling away of healthy tooth structure. Weakened parts of the tooth can be left alone, because the bonding procedure strengthens them.
  • They are more attractive.
