The Invisalign Procedure

We start with an examination including a panographic x-ray view of your entire jaw. We evaluate the condition of your teeth and your appearance-related goals, and share what we think will work best for you. Invisalign doesn't work for every case of crooked teeth. Some cases are too complex. In some cases, you may prefer porcelain veneers, dental bonding, or another option that seems to better meet your needs.

If you elect to go ahead with Invisalign treatment, we will take detailed impressions of your teeth and Dr. Sadati will design a plan for moving your teeth into their correct positions. A sophisticated imaging computer plans out the exact tooth movements and then manufactures a series of clear aligners. A picture of one of these aligners is shown here. When placed in your mouth, it is truly invisible to others. Each aligner is designed to be worn for two weeks. When you snap it onto your teeth, you will find that it doesn't quite fit right. This is because it is designed to fit your teeth in a new position. The effect of having it in your mouth is that it will guide your teeth into this new position, slightly different from their present position. After two weeks, the aligner will feel like it fits perfectly, and then it is time for a new one. You repeat this process until your teeth are in their final, perfectly straight positions.

 

Advantages of Invisalign:

• Because the tooth movements are planned by computer, they are more efficient than conventional braces, up to twice as fast. Typical treatment times are six months to a year.
• Besides avoiding the unsightly appearance of wires and brackets, you also avoid the discomfort. Ask anyone who has worn braces and they will tell you how annoying and sometimes painful it is to have these metal objects digging into your cheeks and tongue.
• No one will be able to tell you're wearing braces.
• With wearing braces, cleaning your teeth is a big issue. Food particles collect around the brackets, and unless you are very diligent with cleaning it off quickly, you will get decay or decalcification spots around the brackets. The wires also prevent normal flossing, and extra effort is required to remove food impacted around the brackets. Not so with Invisalign. Simply take them out when you eat, and then clean your teeth the same as you always do.
