Porcelain Veneers and Laminates FAQ, Part II

Following the Procedure

Patients may experience some sensitivity in the teeth, especially with contact to hot or cold substances. This sensitivity should lessen within two weeks. If you grind or clench your teeth while you sleep, your dentist can fit you with a mouth guard to protect the teeth. Veneers are quite strong and can withstand considerable force when a patient bites down, but they may fracture or break if abused. Patients should therefore avoid hard or sharp foods such as ice or pistachio shells that may cause undue stress. Veneers should be cared for in much the same way as normal teeth, this includes daily brushing, flossing, and periodic checkups with a dentist. Given the proper care, veneers can keep you smiling for decades to come.

Should You Consider Veneers by South Porcelain Veneers Wellington?

Veneers provide an alternative to traditional crowns. They cover unattractive gaps, and can mask stained, misshapen, or crooked teeth. If these conditions apply to your mouth, veneers might be your best option.

How Are Veneers Different from Fillings or Crowns?

A composite resin filling may be used when only a small amount of tooth structure needs replacement. A porcelain veneer is indicated when a portion of the front surface of the tooth needs a face lift. A full crown is indicated when a tooth has had a root canal treatment, or when a substantial amount of the entire tooth surface (enamel) has been lost.
